President Ivanov in Moscow for the 65th anniversary of the victory in World War Two

Macedonian President d-r Gjorge Ivanov was in Moscow today, for the parade in honor of the 65th anniversary of the victory over fascism. During the visit, President Ivanov briefly met his Russian host, President Dmitry Medvedev.

- Attending the parade in Moscow is an opportunity to see the anti-fascism coalition together again, including Macedonia which was part of the coalition. By taking the victorious side in the war, Macedonia managed, after many centuries, the rebirth of its state - said President Ivanov.

During the meeting with President Medvedev, the topic of discussion focused on the relations between Macedonia and Russia, the trade relations, and the Friendship agreement between the two countries that is due to be signed soon, as well as the additional liberalization of the visa regime for Russian citizens traveling to and through Macedonia. President Ivanov also expressed his gratitude to President Medvedev for the invitation to attend the economic summit in Saint Petersburg, that is due on June 16th.

While in Moscow, President Ivanov also met the leaders of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus, Slovakia Ivan Gasparovic, Serbia Boris Tadic, Croatia Ivo Josipovic and Montenegro Philip Vujanovic.

- We have discussed the economic crisis that is, in a way, closing down our field for political activity - said Ivanov.

The President of Macedonia also met the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, His Holliness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia. Patriarch Kirill, who is well acquainted with the situation in the Macedonian Orthodox Church, expressed his readiness, in the limits of his abilities, to make his contribution for the resolving of the issue that pressures the relations between the Macedonian Orthodox Church and other Orthodox Churces.

Over 12.000 soldiers, 100 planes and 150 armoured vehicles paraded at the Red Square. This years parade was marked by the fact that, for the first time in history, four NATO battalions also took part in the parade.

Macedonia is following all the current relations of power that exist in politics and economy, and especially in the energy sector. Our Government is actively involved in these global processes and especially what comes after the crissis. We are ready and know how to position ourselves, said Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov at the 13th Euroasian economic forum begining today in Istanbul.
Ivanov, as reported by the MIA journalist in Istanbul, pointed out that this is not just an economic summit, but a gathering of world leaders that focuses on issues of geopolitics, geoculture and the distribution of power.

- My presence at this Forum reconfirms the excellent relations we have with the Republic of Turkey. Also, the presence of members of the Government of Macedonia, the business and academic community confirms the usual comment that the economic relations lag behind the excellent political relations we havve with Turkey, said Ivanov. He expressed that the relations we have on the political side are being introduced in the economic field, with the goal of having the Turkish business community more present in Macedonia.

His presence at the Forum, said Ivanov, is an excellent opportunity to share experiences and skills practiced by the countries in the region, and that are not present in Macedonia. These regional experiences are welcome in Macedonia and in a way promote the economic cooperation between Macedonia and Turkey.

The participants at the Summit, in the morning session, focused on the unused potentials of the Euroasian countries. Participants expressed expectations that after the end of the World economic crisis, the centre of the world economy and power will move toward the most important Euroasian countries, namely Turkey, China, Russia, Azerbaijan and India.

During the afternoon energy session, the participants at the Summit will discuss investments in the alternative energy sources, especially the importance of building, organizing and marketing the powerlines. Among the topics of the meeting is the Nabucco gas line project and the integration of the gas pipelis from Egypt, Qatar and Iraq with the Nabucco line.

President Ivanov, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Pesevski and Minister Hadi Nezir, in the afternoon will accept the golden key from the Major of the the Shishli municipality in Istanbul.

On Thursday Ivanov will address the Forum, at the session dedicated to the global financis crisis, the regional coordination and cooperation, and also tourism.

Other notable participants at the Forum include Albanian President Bamir Topi, former Bulgarian Presidents Zelu Zelev and Petar Stojanov, former Romanian Presidents Jon Iliesku and Emil Konstantinescu, former Turkish President Suleiman Demirel, former Estonian President Arnold Rutel, former Mongolian President Nastasin Bagabandi, a number of ministers and deputy 
prime ministers from the Central Asian, European, Middle Eastern, East Asian, American and African countries, as well as representatives from 32 international organizations.
 

Meeting with Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Avigdor Liberman

The meeting of President Ivanov and Minister Liberman was devoted to reviewing the relations between the two countries in the context of frequent and high level meetings which contribute to a new quality in the relations between Macedonia and Israel. President Ivanov, who visited Israel last October, pointed out that the two countries have excellent bilateral relations and expressed his satisfaction of the cooperation in the field of security, democratic development and economic progress.

They agreed that the deep historical links between the two peoples and their shared destines are an important moment that contributes to the mutual understanding.

President Ivanov expressed the Macedonian views regarding the difference over the name with our southern neighbor, imposed by Greece as a precondition for Macedonia’s integration in NATO and the European Union. The President pointed out that a Macedonian membership in NATO and EU would significantly contribute to the economic development and further spreading of stability in South-Eastern Europe.

Minister Liberman pointed out that Macedonia is a country contributing not only to regional stability and security, but also to international security by participating in peace missions in the world crisis zones, but also through its unique model of democracy, tolerance and coexistence.

Regarding the strengthening of economic cooperation, President Ivanov greeted the inclusion of representatives of Israeli companies in the delegation of Minister Liberman. The President reaffirmed the interest of the Republic of Macedonia for cooperation with top Israeli companies in the field of hi-tech, agriculture and other areas.
