Macedonian and Greek divers together clean the Lake Dojran – World Water Day marked in Dojran
Friday, 22 March 2013 12:53

Macedonian and Greek divers today jointly participated in the cleaning action of the water of the Lake Dojran on the occasion of the World Water Day, an initiative launched in 1992 by the United Nations. The action was supported by the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov.

We are here to mark the World Water Day and to raise people’s awareness about water. Water is a finite resource and we all know that there is no life without water. With this lake cleaning action we demonstrate our commitment to us and to the future generations. It’s great that Macedonian and Greek divers clean up the lake, because the lake is common, it belongs to us and Greece. This symbolic gesture indicates that this is a joint action that can give results in preserving the environment and caring for the future generations”, President Ivanov said in Dojran.

Last year, the World Water Day in the Republic of Macedonia was marked with a four-months cleaning action of the lake in the canyon Matka, supported by President Ivanov and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norwey.
The Macedonia President, asked about his expectations for the upcoming local elections in the Republic of Macedonia on Sunday, said that he expected the elections to be administered in the best possible manner and urged all participants to contribute to fair and democratic elections.

“I expect, as everyone else expects, the elections to be administered in the best possible manner and every citizen to exercise his democratic and constitutional right in giving his vote to the ones he believes can do most for his region. After the campaign, the citizens can freely decide who they will give their votes to. I urge, however, as before, these elections as the previous, to be conducted in the best possible way primarily because we are being monitored and the election cycle is being scrutinized. It is not acceptable, after 21 year in democracy, to do again some things we have done in the past. Therefore, I urge all stakeholders, all participants in the local elections to contribute to the election to be administered in the best possible manner, and those who attempt to derail the electoral process should seriously sanctioned”, President Ivanov said in response to a journalist’s question during his visit to Dojran.

President Ivanov visited the best mathematicians participating at the international on-line competition
Wednesday, 06 March 2013 15:11

The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, today, in the People’s Office in Skopje, visited the students who participated in the 48-hour international online math competition.

The international competition lasts for 48 hours, and the final ranking will be known tomorrow. The organizer in the Republic of Macedonia is the private high school in Skopje “Algorithm”, with participation of the best primary and secondary school mathematicians. On the World Math Day, they compete with their peers from around the world in quick resolution of multiple tasks and mathematical problems. The best students representing Macedonia are selected from about 2.000 students at the national competition organized by “Algorithm”, under the auspices of President Ivanov.

President Ivanov welcomed young mathematicians, wishing them further success and encouraged them to represent Macedonia in Europe and the world in the future with even better results. The Macedonian President stressed that he will continue to provide his support for such competitions, which are particularly important for the promotion of mathematics, which, as a scientific field, is the basis of the technological development process.

The Principle of the High School Algorithm, Marina Bozinova, expressed gratitude for the support and patronage of President Ivanov and stressed that she particularly appreciates the continued commitment of the President to encourage the scientific potential of the youth.
- There was revolution throughout the country this month in solving tasks. 9 million assignments were solved in Macedonia, children from all over the country competed. The software selected 120 best students and we established teams. We are currently third in the world, while in Europe, only Turkey is better than us. There is a possibility for us to be again among the top ten in the world. It is a success that should be attributed to the students, who prove that mathematics is not something unsolvable, the Principle of “Algorithm”, Marina Bozinova, said.

She announced that several students have already won gold medals because they are best ranked in individual competition (among the best 100) and they will receive their certificates by mail.

The seventh grade student Gjorgi Penkov from the primary school “Goce Delchev” in Negotino is ranked on the 70th position in the world and is second in Macedonia.
I did my best to achieve this result. In a minute, I can now solve 92 tasks. It is good achievement because you need to be fast in clicking, Penkov said.

Elena Levkovska, third year student in the high school “Algorithm”, today won two gold medals in the competition category from 14 to 18 years.
I solved 68 advanced level tasks, which is 98.7 % of all possible. There are 7 students in this category, and I hold the second position in “Algorithm” according to the points achieved, Levkovska said.

The high school “Algorithm” awards scholarships each year for three best mathematicians to encourage more students to develop in that natural science.

Educated people are driving force for development and progress of society - meeting with the best students from the State University of Tetovo
Wednesday, 06 March 2013 12:56

The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, received today the students with the highest GPA in the field of social science faculties at the State University of Tetovo.

As part of the meeting, 30 best students had the opportunity to share their views and opinions to improve the quality of the education system in the country.

President Ivanov said that of particular importance is the promotion of the practical part of the training, which, in fact, prepares the students to acquire professional skills. In this context, the President emphasized that there is investment in training and advancement of professors, which is one of the key commitments of the European and world educational trends. In the regular meetings I have with the best students from several universities across the country, I repeatedly stress that educated people are the driving force of development and progress of our country. Knowledge and experience you gain in the educational process, should in the future be invested in developing all aspects of society, President Ivanov said.

Zeixhana Osmani, a third year political science student at the dispersed studies at the SUT in Skopje, finds that in the future there should be more debates of this kind, and with other state institutions and a number of factors in the state to consider student’s problems. For me personally, this meeting was particularly significant because we had the opportunity to openly debate with the President all our problems, issues and needs. We talked about the conditions offered by the university, the study programs, the cooperation of the University with other universities, as well as the cooperation with the companies, Osmani said. Magdalena Bozinovska, a student at the Faculty of Philology, department of Macedonian language and literature, said that the topic of discussion of the meeting was primarily the Bologna system. There is currently lack of practical work and teaching, in our university and in others. I would like to express my gratitude to President Ivanov who received us here in his office to hear our ideas and concerns about the current and further studying. The goal, of course, is to achieve better results and to have better quality studies, Bozinovska said.

At the meeting, views were exchanged on the current opportunities for student exchanges with foreign universities, facilitating student access to textbooks and databases, and on the improvement of the student status by involving students in projects organized by faculties and promotion of the cooperation with the institutions through those projects. At the same time, President Ivanov congratulated the best students of the State University in Tetovo the success achieved and wished even greater academic and profession achievements.

Lecture by President Ivanov at the Faculty of Law in Kicevo
Tuesday, 05 March 2013 14:30

The upcoming elections, the electoral models, the situation in the Parliament, the international law, the Hague ruling and its impact on the name issue were topics of interest of the students of the Faculty of Law in Kicevo, where the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, held a lecture on the rule of law”.

The topic caused great interest for these students as future lawyers, who have already deeply involved into the secrets of the law, and given the questions they asked and what that concluded, it is a scientific institution I see great prosperity. Although the rule of law is abstract and voluminous topic, it always comes down to what is our real life, all the challenges that we face, issues that we consider on a daily basis and therefore are of interest for the students”, President Ivanov said, adding that he was pleased to accept the invitation to be their guest.

President Ivanov met with the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Ilija Todorovski, who introduce the curricula and the functioning of the Faculty to the President. They discussed the processes in the higher education in the Republic of Macedonia.

Asked to comment on the appointment of new defence minister and the protests in response to his appointment, President Ivanov said the following:

“Still fresh are the memories of what happened in Macedonia in 2001 and many wounds of the conflict are not healed. It is a sensitive topic and his appointment caused such reactions. However, I, as Commander-in-Chief, urge all those who are members of the Army and those who are not members of the Army not to have concerns about the Army. During my office, three defence ministers have changed, but the Army has sustained. Always assessed with the highest grades and serves as an example in terms of its performance and fulfillment of all assignments in the countries we are invited to participate. Many ministers, supreme commanders, heads of state will come and go, but the Army will remain what it has always been and will become even stronger and will always be an example of how other institutions should function”, President Ivanov said.

Asked what the prospects of Macedonia are this year to get a date for the start of negotiations, given that the political impasse is overcome, President Ivanov said that he expects Macedonia, after four positive reports, to be given the deserved date for negotiations.

"We fulfill our obligations, although the so called political crisis distracted us and took some of our time. However, due to our accomplishments, and if local elections are conducted smoothly, we deserve to get a date, because it belongs to us, it should not be seen as a gift. After four positive reports received, the date is something that belongs to the Republic of Macedonia”, the Macedonian Head of State said during his visit to Kicevo.
