Macedonian and Greek divers today jointly participated in the cleaning action of the water of the Lake Dojran on the occasion of the World Water Day, an initiative launched in 1992 by the United Nations. The action was supported by the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov.

We are here to mark the World Water Day and to raise people’s awareness about water. Water is a finite resource and we all know that there is no life without water. With this lake cleaning action we demonstrate our commitment to us and to the future generations. It’s great that Macedonian and Greek divers clean up the lake, because the lake is common, it belongs to us and Greece. This symbolic gesture indicates that this is a joint action that can give results in preserving the environment and caring for the future generations”, President Ivanov said in Dojran.

Last year, the World Water Day in the Republic of Macedonia was marked with a four-months cleaning action of the lake in the canyon Matka, supported by President Ivanov and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norwey.
The Macedonia President, asked about his expectations for the upcoming local elections in the Republic of Macedonia on Sunday, said that he expected the elections to be administered in the best possible manner and urged all participants to contribute to fair and democratic elections.

“I expect, as everyone else expects, the elections to be administered in the best possible manner and every citizen to exercise his democratic and constitutional right in giving his vote to the ones he believes can do most for his region. After the campaign, the citizens can freely decide who they will give their votes to. I urge, however, as before, these elections as the previous, to be conducted in the best possible way primarily because we are being monitored and the election cycle is being scrutinized. It is not acceptable, after 21 year in democracy, to do again some things we have done in the past. Therefore, I urge all stakeholders, all participants in the local elections to contribute to the election to be administered in the best possible manner, and those who attempt to derail the electoral process should seriously sanctioned”, President Ivanov said in response to a journalist’s question during his visit to Dojran.
