The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, today, in the People’s Office in Skopje, visited the students who participated in the 48-hour international online math competition.

The international competition lasts for 48 hours, and the final ranking will be known tomorrow. The organizer in the Republic of Macedonia is the private high school in Skopje “Algorithm”, with participation of the best primary and secondary school mathematicians. On the World Math Day, they compete with their peers from around the world in quick resolution of multiple tasks and mathematical problems. The best students representing Macedonia are selected from about 2.000 students at the national competition organized by “Algorithm”, under the auspices of President Ivanov.

President Ivanov welcomed young mathematicians, wishing them further success and encouraged them to represent Macedonia in Europe and the world in the future with even better results. The Macedonian President stressed that he will continue to provide his support for such competitions, which are particularly important for the promotion of mathematics, which, as a scientific field, is the basis of the technological development process.

The Principle of the High School Algorithm, Marina Bozinova, expressed gratitude for the support and patronage of President Ivanov and stressed that she particularly appreciates the continued commitment of the President to encourage the scientific potential of the youth.
- There was revolution throughout the country this month in solving tasks. 9 million assignments were solved in Macedonia, children from all over the country competed. The software selected 120 best students and we established teams. We are currently third in the world, while in Europe, only Turkey is better than us. There is a possibility for us to be again among the top ten in the world. It is a success that should be attributed to the students, who prove that mathematics is not something unsolvable, the Principle of “Algorithm”, Marina Bozinova, said.

She announced that several students have already won gold medals because they are best ranked in individual competition (among the best 100) and they will receive their certificates by mail.

The seventh grade student Gjorgi Penkov from the primary school “Goce Delchev” in Negotino is ranked on the 70th position in the world and is second in Macedonia.
I did my best to achieve this result. In a minute, I can now solve 92 tasks. It is good achievement because you need to be fast in clicking, Penkov said.

Elena Levkovska, third year student in the high school “Algorithm”, today won two gold medals in the competition category from 14 to 18 years.
I solved 68 advanced level tasks, which is 98.7 % of all possible. There are 7 students in this category, and I hold the second position in “Algorithm” according to the points achieved, Levkovska said.

The high school “Algorithm” awards scholarships each year for three best mathematicians to encourage more students to develop in that natural science.
