The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov paid today a working visit to the Italian Republic, during which he met with the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and attended the concert "Ten Stars for Mother Teresa", celebrating the 100th anniversary of Mother Teresa’s birth, under the auspices of the City of Rome and the Republic of Macedonia.

The Italian Prime Minister, at the one-hour talks with the Macedonian President, stated that Italy is a serious partner and supporter of Macedonia and expressed his support for Macedonia’s EU integration processes.

During the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the possibilities how Italy could help not only Macedonia, but all countries of the region in these processes so that they can move closer to the European Union.

President Ivanov stated that Italy is a sincere friend and is always trying to support our side in the EU integration process and thus assists not only Macedonia but the entire region. The Italian Prime Minister expressed readiness to convey Macedonia's position on the name issue with Greece in institutions where we are not present, President Ivanov underlined.

Information and views were exchanged at the meeting on the possibilities for further strengthening of the economic relations between the two countries. The possibility for participation of Italian companies at the bid for Chebren and Galiste was also discussed.

The Macedonian President and the Italian Prime Minister emphasized that data on direct investments and trade exchange show that there is intensive cooperation among the business sectors and concluded that besides the economic, there is good cooperation with the Italian political scene, which is marked with regular meetings in continuity. In this context, it was agreed that the political dialogue should continue, and it was also agreed that both countries should cooperate concerning the projects on training for young leaders, organized under the auspices of President Ivanov and Prime Minister Berlusconi.



President Ivanov, during the working visit to the Italian Republic, attended and delivered his welcome remarks at the concert "Ten Stars for Mother Teresa", celebrating the 100th anniversary of Mother Teresa’s birth, under the auspices of the City of Rome and the Republic of Macedonia.

The concert "Ten Stars for Mother Teresa" is a great musical and poetic spectacle, performed by the symphonic orchestra Nova Amadeus under the baton of Bruno Santori, where 10 stars from the Italian musical scene were presented, among whom was the Macedonian tenor Blagoj Naceski.

In his welcome remarks, President Ivanov said that the Republic of Macedonia has always given to the world children who, by their thought and mission, have bridged the differences and linked people and nations. Mother Teresa reflects best Macedonia’s tradition, respect for diversity, life full of humanity and esteem, President Ivanov stressed.



At the event, through short mini-movies, as well as through the testimonies of people who have had the opportunity to personally meet her, the Life of Blessed Mother Teresa was presented by RAI journalists. "Ten stars for Mother Teresa” is a project of Fabrizio Silvestri, Lino Alecci and Laura Muzzupappa.

The concert "Ten stars for Mother Teresa” was also attended by the Cardinal Bertone, State Secretary of the Holy See and the mayor of Rome, Giovanni Alemnanno.
