18 years of existence of Political Studies marked
Friday, 16 September 2011 13:42

You have to learn first the sublime categories of justice, goodness and beauty, and that is something that can be learned only through politics, said the President.

Political Studies at the Faculty of Law in Skopje today mark 18 years of existence. The adulthood of the studies was also acknowledged in the speech of the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, who is one of the founding members of the youngest Studies at the Faculty “Iustinianus Primus”.

”Eighteen years means maturity for a person, one can make own decisions about life, but there is an obvious symbolism - political studies are mature because they are in safe hands, the staff that we have taught now knows how to lead the studies”, President Ivanov stressed.

He told the students to learn from the basics - from the old school, from those born before Christ and from the founders of the science that deals with the relations in society and man’s freedom in the society, citing Herodotus, Isocrates, Aristotle, Plato, Seneca...

”Political science is the most dynamic science, because as people change, the relations between them and their communities change, too. Today politics is not the spring. Do not learn politics from today’s point of view policy because you will get poisoned. Drink the water at its spring and from the spring move to the mouth”, President told the students of political science.

The Head of State in his lecture on politics said that politics for the society is what ethics is for the individuals. In order to practice policy, one should be virtuous and have a moral stance. Quoting Plato, President Ivanov emphasized that we should learn the sublime categories of justice, goodness and beauty and it is learned only through politics.

”This is a royal science, this is the most sublime science that teaches people to establish order in their community”, added President Ivanov.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Borche Davitkovski, noted that although the youngest in the development of the Faculty of Law (60 years), these studies prompted the establishment of other universities, and the fact that professors are people of important state functions sets these studies on the leading position.

The studies were established in the academic 1993/1994, and since 2005/2006 were adapted to the European credit transfer system. There are four specialized Master degree studies, while the fifth is in the process of accreditation. In these 18 years, 2126 students enrolled and 925 graduated. At the political studies, students are scientifically prepared and professionally trained for expert, analytical and advisory work in political institutions, public administration, diplomacy, political parties, local government, market-oriented agencies and similar international organizations, foundations and institutes.

Zoran Ilievski, Head of the Department of Political Science said that their future efforts will be directed towards internationalization of the studies and their transformation into a regional center.
