Address by the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, at the Macedonian - Polish Business Forum
Tuesday, 10 September 2013 14:51

Honorable President Komorowski,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It gives me great honor and pleasure to greet you at this business forum. This forum gives us the opportunity to see the challenges and opportunities for investment and trade cooperation between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Poland and to present the competitive conditions offered by the Republic of Macedonia, as a favorable business destination.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Republic of Poland is an important trading partner of the Republic of Macedonia, and in 2012 it was on the list of 20 best trading countries. In the first six months of 2013, unfortunately, Poland is no longer in the group of the largest trade partners of Macedonia. That is the reason why we are here today: to give a new spirit of the cooperation, since there is a real basis for that.

In 2013, there has been a growth in the share of total trade exchange between Macedonia and Poland to the structure of the total trade exchange between Macedonia and the world. Also, there has been an increase in the share of imports from Poland in Macedonia in the structure of total imports from the world in Macedonia.

This suggests that there is interest in trade cooperation between Macedonian and Polish companies. But the efforts of the institutions and chambers of both countries should be doubled in order to provide additional conditions for promotion of the international relations.

There is no doubt, as President of the Republic of Macedonia, I am convinced that my colleague and friend, President Komorowski, also, within our capacities, will give our full support and assistance. It is not, indeed, by accident that we are here today to encourage and motivate you to continue your contacts, to find interest in cooperation. The governments of both countries will provide support. We will take all necessary measures and activities in order to increase the economic cooperation.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Top priority of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia is to create a highly competitive Macedonian economy as a basis for favorable business destination, attractive to foreign investment. Economy that meets the interests of potential investors, and the interests of export-oriented companies that are already in Macedonia.

To attain this goal, the Government and all relevant stakeholders, continuously work to improve the business environment and work conditions, providing equal benefits for foreign and domestic companies.

At macroeconomic level, Macedonia has stable macroeconomic policy with enhanced financial regulation. Foreign exchange operations are liberalized and the efficiency of the banking supervision is improved. There is long-term macroeconomic stability with low inflation, which is in average 2 % in the last 10 years. Public finances are balanced with a low budget deficit, a stable exchange rate and low public debt.

We have reformed the labor market and introduced active measures to boost employment. In the area of tax policy, we have introduced a low flat tax of 10 %. We have released of tax the retained profit which is not distributed in dividends. We have gradually reduced the social contributions for 1/3. With the Regulatory Guillotine we have simplified the business regulations, introduced one-stop shop system in customs and tax administration. We have facilitated the procedure for building, we have lessened ground rent, we have introduced subsidies for tour operators, thus improving the business climate in the country.

Distinguished Guests,

I am confident that our two friendly countries are committed to creating favorable business and trade climate, with special emphasis on the protection of common interests.

I encourage you to enhance mutual contacts and contacts with relevant institutions in Macedonia and Poland. I encourage you to look for coordination and logistic support for your future investment and trading activities. Hence, you and your business will be part of a successful and mutually beneficial business story.

I am convinced that this business forum will bear fruit and contribute to establish concrete cooperation among many of you.

Thank you.

„ May we make Macedonia a winning team in every aspect of life“ - Address by the President Ivanov, on the occasion of September 8, the Independence Day
Sunday, 08 September 2013 00:00

akademijaDistinguished citizens of the Republic of Macedonia,
Esteemed Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, September 8, we celebrate the 22nd birthday of independent, autonomous and sovereign Republic of Macedonia. We celebrate it in our home, a home built on stone, a house built on three Ilindens.

The first Ilinden, in 1903, was a struggle for freedom from slavery.
The second Ilinden, in 1944, was a struggle for statehood.
The third Ilinden, the one we celebrate today, was a struggle for independence, autonomy and sovereignty.

This holiday is a reminder of our successes. This holiday is a day when we celebrate the crucial decisions by which we have made the dreams of our ancestors come true - freedom, statehood and independence. This holiday is a day of celebration, but of reconsideration, too. A day when we realize what we have achieved and what we have not achieved, what we achieve today and what we are to achieve.

Respected fellow-citizens,

In the course of a human life, 22 years are a period of ripening, when from the carefree childhood and youth we enter the age of maturity. It is the age when we take responsibility. It is, indeed, the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new cycle in our life.

Compared to human life, in the history of one state, 22 years are only one moment. But it is a moment in which essential decisions are made, when we win or lose, when we survive defeats and when we celebrate successes.

In these past 22 years, many people doubted our maturity, perseverance and the ability to have our own state, to be on our own, to be responsible for ourselves.

Many people underestimated us, we were depreciated, and some even hindered us on our path to become and remain independent, autonomous and sovereign state.

We have experienced moments of euphoria and celebration, but also defeats and disappointments. We rejoiced the independence. And no matter what, we have proven that the one who withstands the temptations, will reach the goal. We have endured on our righteous path and we fulfill the dream of the Ilinden and ASNOM fighters.

That path was not easy, but it helped us in building ourselves. We have felt some people's selfishness, greed and injustice, but also friends' respect, solidarity and recognition. We are eternally grateful to them. Today, on September 8, the Independence Day, we leave a vow to our descendants to be grateful to those who encouraged and motivated us in the most difficult times.

Esteemed Excellencies,

Soon we will have the honor to pay tribute to some of Macedonia's friends who have recognized us at a time when many denied us. Friends who correctly understood the human right to self-identification and the right to human dignity. Friends who were not afraid to utter 'the Republic of Macedonia", at a time when others were hiding behind the beautiful epithets and metaphors, naming us "your country" or "your beautiful country", without mentioning the name Macedonia. Friends who saw in the Republic of Macedonia an equal member of the international community, a country with a dignified name, a country with a great past and a bright future.

In two days, I will bestow one of those friends of Macedonia, the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Bronislaw Komorowski. Decorations will also be awarded to the highest state officials of Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Macedonia remembers and never forgets. No one will be forgotten. Not only Macedonia's friends in Europe and the world. But all sons and daughters of our common homeland of Macedonia. I am honored that during my tenure I could symbolically express my and the Republic of Macedonia's gratitude to our emigrants and athletes, artists and scientists, to all of our deserving individuals and organizations. This noble practice will continue in the future as well.

Dear fellow-citizens,

The state is like a family. And for every family, one of the most important things is its neighbors. Every family wants to live in a good neighborhood.

The first day of independence started in a turbulent time of painful transformation and transition of our region. In such difficult circumstances, the Republic of Macedonia was determined to be a good neighbor, to be a factor of peace and stability, to help in the building of an advanced and prosperous region. It was not easy at all. And it is even not easy today. Notwithstanding, we have achieved a lot. Today the region is dramatically changed in a positive way.

Prejudices of some political elites still create problems in the relations between the states in the region. However, citizens' desires to be part of the European and Euro-Atlantic family are much stronger than prejudice. The EU integration path, being also the path of the future, successfully bypasses prejudice, as seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

All of us, elected by the citizens, are fully guided by the principle of openness to all. We promote old and establish new friendships for Macedonia. We have never spread fear and prejudice, we have never denied anyone. We have respected, accepted and valued diversity. We do the same today.

We are open to the world, to all countries, regions and civilizations. It is not by coincidence that Macedonia has initiated the Dialogue among Civilizations. It is not by chance that Macedonia has been recognized and respected within the Alliance of Civilizations. Openness and respect for diversity is Macedonia's strength.
In this regard, we do not choose between West and East, North and South. It is more than obvious who we are, where we are and where we want to be. And, we are willing to cooperate with all well-doers.

akademija2Distinguished citizens of the Republic of Macedonia,

We have faced, in these 22 years, many internal political challenges. Many of the unlearned lessons from our transition to democracy even today hinder the success, progress and future of the Republic of Macedonia.

We have spent too much time in quarrels and disputes, in proving and self-assertion. This is not useful. Even the events of December 24 were not to happen. But for us it should be a learned lesson. We are closing a chapter that should never be repeated. We do this for us, but we expect it to be valued by the European Union, too.

We must not forget that integration is our objective, not a means of infinite lassitude in political quarrels. Integration is a means of unification, not of division. It is, indeed, the strategic goal of the Republic of Macedonia.

Respected Macedonians, Albanians, Turks, Serbs, Roma, Vlachs, Bosniaks...,
Dear Christians, Muslims, Jews...,
Respected fellow citizens,

Our multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-confessional society cherishes values which for other societies are still a challenge. Values we need to protect and nurture. Values such as honesty, respect for differences, acceptance of diversity, mutual understanding. Values that have enabled our ancestors to live in peace, harmony and understanding, regardless of their ethnic, religious or linguistic belonging. Values that have allowed their children to play, grow and thrive together. Values that make us different than the others. Values not only we need to protect but to pass on to our children.

Therefore, today, on the Independence Day, I urge you to respect Macedonia with all its specificities. To love Macedonia with all its diversity. To protect and preserve our way of living, our values.

Dear fellow-citizens,

It is engraved in the Manifesto of the First Assembly of ASNOM: "We will live in Macedonia as we will build it". The same applies today. Every individual, every one of us is responsible for what is and what Macedonia will be.

Macedonia is a result of thoughts, words and deeds of our ancestors, laid into what we have today.
Macedonia is a set of dreams, desires and aspirations of all its children.
Macedonia is our every decision, habit and choice we make today, which is reflected in the future of the generations that come after us.

With each step taken we contribute to building Macedonia today and to Macedonia we will leave to our descendants. We contribute as parents and as children. As teachers and students, as businessmen, politicians, cultural workers. As soldiers and officers. We contribute as citizens of the Republic of Macedonia, regardless of our background.

Our decisions and actions will be reassessed by the most important judges.

The first judge is history, giving recognition to those who contributed with their deeds, heroism and sacrifice, judging those who worked against the interests of the state, people, citizens.

The second judge is the citizens, who, in a democracy, have the power and know how to reward those who contribute to the common good, the Republic, Macedonia. Macedonian citizens are righteous and wise judges who can say whether and to what extend someone has worked for their interests.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Spending our energy on issues that do not deserve attention, as if we loose sight of the main challenges of our society, the main challenges of the time we live in. As if there is a lack of competition in ideas and solutions to everyday challenges. As if there is a lack of debate on real problems. Debate which will not exceed the limits of public decency.

Citizens expect from everyone involved in politics, economy and civil society, in media, NGOs and public administration, in health, agriculture and industry, in education and science, culture and sport, in all segments of our society, to find their proper place in the Republic of Macedonia. And not only to find it, but also to fight to be better in what they do. The state can and wants to be a partner of everyone who wants to broaden horizons, who strives to be better. To create better conditions and environment for a life in Macedonia.

Reforms should not be perceived as a burden unjustly imposed, but as a well-intentioned challenge designed to make us stronger, more capable and better in what we do. Hence, no matter how painful, reforms are of mutual benefit to us all.

Our objective is competitiveness of our economy, employment growth, achievement of business standards and attracting new investment. Our goal is provision of quality education for our citizens. Quality services rendered by the administration.

Enough of topics used only for sowing fear and mistrust. They do not deserve our attention. Patriotism is not proven by word. Citizens very well recognize real patriotism. Act of true patriotism is improving citizens' living standards, opening new opportunities and perspectives for our children and students. Achieving highest standards in health, agriculture, industry. Providing dignified old age for retired people. Overall prosperity and development of Macedonia. Therefore, I strongly appreciate the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia that devotes so much time to make Macedonia a better place to live in. Deeds, not empty words, are patriotism.

Respected fellow-citizens,

Goce Delchev said that "the Macedonian would end slavery when he will stop being a slave in the soul". Thus, when we are free from the bondage of prejudice, bad thoughts and words, we will fully and unconditionally commit to the common good, to the country, to Macedonia.

Our athletes, for example. They are united in the national team and bring successes of the state, successes that we are all proud of, achievements that unite us all.

We are with our athletes in victories and in defeats. We cheer them at the sport fields. We encourage them in the country and abroad. We are always with them, as we know that real defeat is if you do not try to win, if you never dare to go out on the field. Our athletes are brave and courageous and represent Macedonia with dignity wherever they are.

Let us learn from the athletes. May we make Macedonia a winning team in every aspect of life!

In every segment of society, in every profession, we need commitment that befits a national team. A team that will achieve great successes and victories, that will win new peaks and new records in its domain. We need teams that will always elevate us and raise us on a higher level.

I have said and I will say it again: Let us build Macedonia in height, with the highest standards, criteria and principles.

In politics and business, in education and science, in agriculture and tourism, in information and telecommunication sector, in culture and sport, in every walk of human life, we need a national team. A team that will bring together diversity, that will reflect all the specificities of our society, and will represent the state, the Republic of Macedonia.

We need teams with ideas. Teams focused on achieving the goal and winning a victory. We should not seek excuses for failure, since excuses are the last stop which leads to lies and self-delusion.

Everything that has been done for young people is an investment in the future.

It is said that the past cannot be changed. But I say that it is only partially true. If today we change the present, tomorrow it will be the past of our children, who will remember or forget us, depending on whether we have invested in them or not.

Therefore, I urge you, today, to change the past for our children, so that tomorrow they can have a better future. Let us be active citizens. In everything we do we should be guided by the principles of self-responsibility, self-assistance and solidarity. Thus, we will be able to gain self-confidence and respect of others.

To have a responsibility to ourselves, responsibility for our thoughts, decisions and actions that affect our lives, but also the lives of our closest.

May we turn into independent individuals committed to the common goal. Therefore, it is said that if we help ourselves, then God will help us, too.

If we can help ourselves, then we can help others, share solidarity with those in trouble, with those in need of comfort, incitement and encouragement.

With this, we will return the debt to our homeland Macedonia. We are now building the foundations on which future generations are to be built and upgraded.

Dear fellow-citizens,

As long as we keep the ember for Macedonia, we kept the flame, too. As long as the flame is burning, there is light, there is future. We carry this light in our hearts and in our thoughts. That light is the freedom and love for Macedonia.

I will conclude with the message: Good thoughts lead to good words. And good words result in good deeds. For us, for our next of kin, for our fellow citizens, friends, for our homeland - Macedonia

Happy Birthday Homeland!
To our eternal freedom and independence!
Long live the Republic of Macedonia!

Address by president Ivanov on the occasion of the opening of the “Confucius” Institute
Tuesday, 03 September 2013 12:36

Distinguished Attendees,
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear Friends,

It gives me special honor that today we are witnessing the opening of the "Confucius" Institute within the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, in cooperation with the Southwest University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, People's Republic of China.

Today, the Republic of Macedonia and the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University join the global network of "Confucius" institutes, a network that encompasses more than 320 "Confucius" institutes in more than 90 countries worldwide.

Together with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, H.E. Mr. Zhiwei, we have initiated the opening of this important institute. Still fresh is the remembrance of our first meeting, when this idea was born, which today becomes a reality. Aware of the importance of this joint venture, I avail myself of this solemn occasion, to extend my gratitude to the Ambassador and all our friends from the People's Republic of China for their overall engagement and commitment.

Distinguished Attendees,

The opening of the "Confucius" Institute builds upon one of my initiatives from the university days. Recognizing the importance of the Chinese philosophical and political thought, for the first time, my colleagues and I, introduced Confucius in the Political Studies' program at the Faculty of Law "Justinian I". Thus, we have corrected the Eurocentric approach in the studies and brought closer to the students the political wisdom and thought from the Far East, from China.

If that was only an academic approximation, then the opening of the "Confucius" Institute shall be the link between our students, teachers, citizens and everything that means Chinese civilization contribution.

The Institute opens doors not only for active learning of the Chinese language, but also for learning of the Chinese culture, tradition and philosophy. This cooperation foresees joint research projects, exchange of visiting professors and students, joint organization of scientific conferences and workshops, collaboration and exchange of publications, university journals, etc.

This institute is yet another indicator of the excellent friendly relations between the two countries. The Republic of Macedonia attaches great importance to the development of its relations with the People's Republic of China. There is a continuous political dialogue at the highest level that contributes to even greater enhancement and deepening of the relations and cooperation between the two countries.

institut1Esteemed Excellencies,

Many of us can be teachers, but a teacher is only the one that is accepted as such by the people. Confucius is one of those great teachers of the people. That is the reason why he is called even today a supreme teacher, master and wise man.

Our two friendly nations have one thing in common and that is the ability to recognize and value real people's teachers. In the case of the People's Republic of China, it is Confucius and his disciples. In the case of the Republic of Macedonia, it is Ss. Cyril and Methodius and their disciples, St. Clement and Naum of Ohrid.

The parallel between the teachers of these two nations does not end here. As Confucius formed the school that continued his work, Ss. Cyril and Methodius sowed the seed which sprouted the Ohrid Literary School, as the first Slavic university in the world.

The lectures of the teachers of these two nations went beyond the space, stood the test of time, beat prejudice and became part of world wisdom.

I will give just one example. Asked if there is one word that would be a guide to man throughout his life, Confucius said: "Reciprocity. Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself!" the Silver Rule of Confucius is present in our society as a Golden Rule, which says: "One should treat others as one would like to be treated!" A rule that St. Clement upgraded, advising us to compete in goodness. There is something similar in the philosophy of Confucius, who said that good deeds for others spring from the good thoughts that come from good knowledge.

This institute is fulfillment of the covenant to this great teacher and a door in Macedonia for a better knowledge of Confucius.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

At the end, I wish our teachers, our students and associates, in this world that is constantly changing, to find a stronghold in the teachings of Confucius. Teaching that has transcended, by its value and universality, the boundaries of the People's Republic of China and has become one of the pillars of world wisdom.

Thank you.

Address at the closing of the 4th School for Young Leaders
Saturday, 31 August 2013 22:22

Good evening,

Here we are. As you know, at the beginning, two weeks ago, right from this place, it was said that this school should metaphorically be considered a journey. That journey is about to finish now. The journey and the certificates obtained take you on a new journey. A journey through life and a journey, primarily, in pursuit of happiness. It was also said that happiness is with the brave. Thus, it is not luck that you are here, but you deserve to be here, because for all that you have achieved so far, the award is this School. Through the School we reward you for what you have managed to achieve, for the success in your education, in your friendship, to be part of this journey.

You have learned many things at this School. If you see the number of hours, it is the same as a whole semester at some faculties, and the number of lecturers, it is for a whole school year. After all that you have experienced, some, without offence, give a diploma, not a certificate. Therefore, for all the knowledge, all the know-how, everything you have gained as skills, experience from others, you should have a sense of gratitude. May that feeling be with you for a lifetime. Always be thankful and have the sense of gratitude. As previously mentioned, the mission is that those who give immediately forget, but those who receive it, i.e. you, should always remember it and be grateful for the beautiful moment, the beautiful event, the beautiful hour of beautiful coffee, the beautiful day, and be thankful for all that is beautiful in life. And please do not forget to say thank you. Be grateful, indeed.

Although gratitude always comes at the end, I would like to mention and thank, at the outset, all the friends of the School, to thank those you have seen and those you have not seen, for all the logistics and all the support and assistance for this School. I will not mention names, but I will thank the waiters and the cooks and the management of this hotel. Thanks to all members of the business community, to all drivers, taxi drivers, to all those who helped you focus on this journey. When you learn to be grateful, you will see how life is grateful. You will learn how life pays you back. When you learn this, you will see how many things in your life are easy, how easily they are achieved, even some intangible things. You will learn many things in life and you will be really grateful for it.

However, the most important thing is that all beautiful things will come. Our people say: What is for your will not pass you. Therefore, do not be impatient. Have patience to experience the merit of your personal efforts and your mind. Do not rush; everything in life has its own order. Follow the order and everything in life will come true. Learn to share always what you know. Indeed, that is the mission of the School, which we define as Network Thinking - thinking jointly, sharing experience, knowledge, because we live in such a world. That is the reason why one of the biggest companies in the world, not by chance, has taken that idea in its slogan: Share. Share what you have to share. Because you are part of many networks, you are part of the experience of all your teachers, all your experienced managers, of all experienced people you have listened to, discussed and shared with in these two weeks. Throughout life you will be aware of the benefits it brings, as compared to the others. You are not yet aware of the power you receive now. Since all this knowledge is part of you and you are part of it, too. Metaphorically, when you swim in the Ohrid Lake, you know not where you belong. As you swim in the Ohrid Lake, not knowingly, you are in contact, through the River Drim with the Adriatic Sea, with the Ionian Sea, with the Mediterranean Sea, with the oceans. When you swim in the Ohrid Lake, you are part of the world. So, the knowledge, the experience and skills you have gained make you part of the overall knowledge, experience and values. And therefore, I think it will be your support in life.

Our intention is every generation to be inter-connected and to communicate, to share experiences, knowledge and skills. Never be selfish. Never be greedy. Never be predacious. Otherwise, life will punish you. Always be good and share what you have with others. Because if you do not share your knowledge and experience, you will forget it, it will disappear. Try to be always innovative and creative. No matter how unachievable the thing might seem, you never know which path your idea would travel and whom it would serve to succeed. Therefore, always be positive, creative, innovative. It is true that we speak what we think. What we speak, we live. Always try to have positive thoughts that bear good ideas. These good ideas will come in contact with good friends that will be helpful in your life. We are not aware how much we need each other, especially those who are good. As goodness is limited, and wickedness is unlimited. As it is said that darkness is absence of light, wickedness is absence of goodness. Therefore, be good and spread that goodness. And every time you have the chance, seize that moment. Only once we fail in life. Be aware that what you do disturbs your existing beliefs. It is said that you can not change the past. With your good behavior, you actually change the past for those who come after us. Your descendants will remember you by your deeds. However, remember one thing - wisdom is not to be quoted, but to be applied. Wisdom is left by our ancestors so that we can benefit from it, not by quoting it, but by applying it. Thus, all the knowledge and experience you have been taught of is given to you to use and to transmit it, and to spread innovation, creativity and kindness. Therefore, this ethical moment is present at this School.

In life, you will experience many things. Forget the bad and remember the good. You will have many friends, as the School has, but they are with you because they want to learn from you and share with you. But to really succeed in life, you need enemies. They are an indicator that you have succeeded. They are the ones that admit. It is a sign that you have achieved your target in life. And, as for the period while you were at this School, you have given up many things that your peers have done, especially in Ohrid, to be all day long on the beach, to party all night long, to socialize and do nothing, you made a sacrifice in order to get something that will be useful in your life. So, everything in life is sacrifice. If you make a sacrifice, you get. If you do not make a sacrifice, you will not be able to enjoy the result of your sacrifice, investment in your happiness. Happiness is a feeling of those who have succeeded and who dreamed, whose dream has become a reality. Feel free to dream. Dream, imagine and strive always for sublime things. Hence, our goal was to establish such a school, and we strive, each year, to make it even better. That is the goal of this School and the philosophy deriving from these years of independent Macedonia - to build Macedonia in height, with the highest standards, criteria and the highest principles. You are part of it. Therefore, be the best, be successful every time and you will be happy. At the outset, I told you that I will speak at the beginning and I will listen to you at the end. Now, when the time comes for the certificates, I would like to hear each of you how you have experienced this journey, provided that you do not repeat each other: be concise, be creative, innovative. With a word, or a gesture, as you wish and know, tell us how you spent these strenuous 14 days. I told you at the beginning, it will not be easy, but the moment came and you are not yet aware of what you have gained and participated in. Thus, while waiting for the ticket for a new journey, I would like to thank you for being a part of this idea, which was only my idea in the election program, but has become a reality. I was dreaming and sharing ideas. And, I told you at the opening and I will finish with that. What can you expect from a professor getting involved into politics but establishing a school.

Thank you.

President Ivanov’s address at the opening ceremony of the 4th School for Young Leaders
Monday, 19 August 2013 15:12

Distinguished professors, participants, friends and supporters of the School for Young Leaders,

It is a real honor and pleasure for me to greet you today in Ohrid, the place where, as mentioned, for millennia knowledge has been transmitted from one to other generation. Ohrid, which is our spiritual capital and a symbol of what connects and binds us. Symbolically, it is what the School has become today.

This fourth generation, indeed, confirms what we had in the past and what we plan for the future. At the beginning it was only an idea, an idea to create youth for the future and future for the youth, because Macedonia needs people who know how to lead now and in the future. We need leaders not only in politics but we need leaders in economy, culture, business, sports, in all fields. Therefore, the structure of the participants varies each year and involves different segments of our society. Asked about the idea for the creation of such a School, I frankly say: What can you expect from a professor getting involved into politics but establishing a school. Hence, the School is a result of the desire to continue with education and transfer of knowledge. This School is, in a way, recognition of the entire individual success of the participants achieved so far, because, through the School, you will upgrade and improve all the knowledge you have gained. This School is not just for obtaining knowledge; this is a School for many skills, experiences from our friends of the School. I call them friends because they are constantly in contact with us and they tell us what to expect from this generation, from those who are in these positions, in these state responsible posts. For we live in a world that is rapidly changing, world in which knowledge quickly becomes obsolete, world that is facing major challenges and requires new solutions. Solutions that sometimes go beyond the patterns we know, solutions that must be offered by people who are not burdened by many traumas of the past.

shkola2This is a generation that is growing; generation we are trying to focus in a direction to be able to offer solutions, to offer visions, to offer views for this fast revolving world. This would be helpful not only for Macedonia, but for the region, for the entire planet, because we live in a world in which global has become local. What happens globally is felt in our everyday life. The fact that we have mobile phones that give us the possibility to access the entire human knowledge indicates that we have really huge potential and great opportunities to influence not only the situation in our countries, but the situation in the wider surroundings.

I take this opportunity to express a public gratitude to the business community of Macedonia that has recognized the idea and generously and wholeheartedly supports it. This year we have international supporters too. I am really thankful that they have realized that this is for their benefit, that Macedonia really needs people who will be able to establish contacts and friendships with other people in the world. The School not only lives these days while we are in Ohrid, but it continues to live through the Alumni Association throughout the year, waiting the next generation. As you were welcomed by previous School participants, you will have the opportunity to welcome the participants of the next generations. It is, in a way, a solid friendship that will follow you in your life and allow you to interact with other successful people who have achieved much in their life and need to progress and advance. That is Macedonia's capital. You are the ones who will be in these positions one day, you are the ones who will create one day, Macedonia will be really proud of you. Investing in you is investing in those who come after you.

I really feel immense joy and happiness when I see all former participants on the lists of awards, recognitions, scholarships. I am filled with happiness when I meet our successful people at foreign universities, foreign companies. Although they are out of Macedonia, wherever they go, they have Macedonia with them, and they work for Macedonia. Many of them come as lecturers and participants at the School, which only shows that the School is really a big ship that is sailing. This was said to the first generation. I urged last generation to understand the School metaphorically as a journey by car, because when you are in a car you must look ahead. Therefore, the windscreen is always a big window, whereas the rear-view mirror is a small one, enough for you to see who is about to pass you by and jeopardize your safety. We, unfortunately, in the past, in our region, the rear-view mirror was so big that there were so many car crashes and accidents we still try to overcome. Thus, I wish that you see more ahead, that you hold the steering wheel firmly and have as many fellow travelers as possible and transfer them in a different world, a world filled with joy and happiness.

Principles of knowledge and experience are today as they were in ancient times. Principles remain the same. Therefore, we expect you to be diligent, hardworking and always ethical. To see the consequence of each decision you make, and the knowledge that you gain at this School to allow you to be several steps ahead of others, to think from the future point of view and to see all the consequences of the decisions you must make, to be aware of everything that has been transferred to you that you need to persevere and transfer to the next generation. That is why we insist so much on ethics in our School, we insist on consistency in the adoption and execution of the tasks, because during the School you will have to cope with real problems that need a solution. You will be trained to work in teams and the team that will face crisis you will be able to see who is the leader, to see who can lead and who can bring solutions. You will be educated to upgrade the experience of our distinguished guests and friends. You will simply be faced with something that cannot be found in your books, because many of the books you studied of are already outdated. The experience and knowledge of our guests and friends, the decisions they have made in the past, which allowed them to be here today with us, should be inspiration for you. I wish you success, many ideas, many visions, lots of desires to contribute to your environment after the School. I repeat, big thanks to our friends, to the supporters, and great gratitude to the media that enables our work here to be accessible to the public, to make known that in Macedonia world-class people come, people from world renown institutions, international institutions, distinguished leaders of countries who never leave you indifferent and always have something to say and learn from them. Once again, I wish you success and I will listen to you at the closure of the School.

Thank you.
