President Ivanov meets with Ambassador Matthew Nimetz

Nimic-webThe President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, received today Ambassador Matthew Nimetz, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on the name issue.

The meeting reviewed the current state of the UN-led process and exchanged information and opinions related to the ideas and considerations of the Special Envoy Nimetz, as well as the outcome of his visit to Athens.

President Ivanov stressed that the solution to the name dispute could be sought only within the United Nations frameworks, and reaffirmed the position that strict adherence to the framework is required - the Charter of the United Nations, the Security Council resolutions, the Interim Accord and the judgment of the International Court of Justice.

The Macedonian President stressed that the Republic of Macedonia will continue to participate in the process in a constructive way, in order to find a solution to the imposed dispute by Greece, which will not affect the identity of the Macedonian people and will not violate the dignity of the Macedonian citizens.

President Ivanov welcomed the intensification of the dialogue and stressed that the overcoming of the name dispute must be in line with international law and internationally undertaken obligations.
