Saturday, 19 May 2012 14:22

Ms. Maja Ivanova, wife of President Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, Paul Wohlers, U.S. Ambassador, Gordana Jankuloska, Minister of Interior and the President of the Association Borka, Biba Dodeva, today led the pink march that started at the square Macedonia within the campaign for fight against breast cancer. They sent a message on the importance of early diagnosis and support to patients as a basic prerequisite to beat breast cancer.

“Today, colored in pink, we will walk for our fellow women citizens, those who are struggling with breast cancer every day. Those whose life is at a huge challenge, the most difficult one, who need support, helping hand, assistance and embrace”, said the wife of the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Ms. Ivanova.

All of us today, added she, will be a reminder that breast cancer is a reality that every woman can experience, stressing that if events like this can encourage at least one woman to test herself and detect the threat before it is too late, we have already achieved one of the goals.

The President of the Association “Borka”, Biba Dodeva, noted that she is honored that this initiative has attracted many supporters, because this fight should not be surrendered to others, because this fight is our fight.

The presence of people at this event, according to Minister Jankuloska, best confirms the message we want to transmit, that we are all together in this difficult struggle with those who are struggling, which is a reason more to persist.

The U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Macedonia, Wohlers, expressed satisfaction with his and his wife's participation to support the campaign and thus contribute to increasing public awareness about this disease.

"Special pleasure is that the First Lady Ivanova is today with us. I applaud her dedication to this initiative and her commitment to raising awareness among all women in Macedonia. We are proud and happy that Macedonia continues the movement for greater awareness regarding breast cancer, as well as with the fundraising for the fight against this disease. These steps are steps of hope", said U.S. Ambassador Wohlers.

The U.S. Embassy in Skopje tonight in support of the campaign will be "colored" in pink.

The fourth traditional campaign against breast cancer is titled "Go Pink 2012 - Steps against Breast Cancer" and was organized by the Association "Borka - For Every New Day" in cooperation with the Association Integrity Alpha and Omega and the U.S. Embassy.

In the Republic of Macedonia, there are about 750 women who are annually diagnosed with breast cancer. Today's march was a humanitarian march, too. Organizers were selling pink products sold and the money will be earmarked for support and assistance of cancer patients.
