Dear Friends,

Since the dawn of history, art is like a mirror that reminds us of two great truths. The first one is that we are created with the need to create. Therefore, we are the happiest in the moments when we express the deepest talents that make us what we are, with all our diversity and uniqueness. The second truth is that, sharing the fruits of our talents, we contribute to building a better world for the future generations.

However, in times of major transformations, humanity seems to have forgotten to look in the mirror of art. We are torn between the countless choices and opportunities offered by the technology, without knowing what to commit ourselves to. It seems that the world has never been so materially rich, while so spiritually poor.

Yet, we do not lose hope for, as the wise say, beauty will save the world. Men will again look at it and be reminded of what it defines, and that is creating and sharing art.

The Republic of Macedonia is indeed fortunate to have for already 55 years the "Ohrid Summer Festival" which is a mirror that enriches us spiritually. It enriches us with those musical, scenic and artistic works which, bridging the barriers of space and time, through the performances of the best Macedonian, European and world artists, reach out to us.

With this thought, I declare this year's jubilee "Ohrid Summer Festival" open!
