To His Excellency Dr. Gjorge Ivanov President of the Republic of Macedonia
I would like to extend my gratitude for your letter of November 2, 2011. I share your assessment regarding the outcome of our meetings in Moscow and St. Petersburg last year.
I am delighted that recently the relations between our countries are activated in several significant directions. In our opinion, special attention should be paid to the promising areas of mutual interest: energy and investment. The work of the Intergovernmental Commission on trade, economic and scientific-technical cooperation is being developed with fast pace.
I believe that drafting a document which would be a foundation of our bilateral relations in such a positive environment is certainly very important. Our experts are preparing a detailed document which is expected to reflect the achieved level of effective joint action and to raise the dialogue to a higher level. By the end of the year, concrete proposals will be sent to the Macedonian side via diplomatic channels.
I am convinced that the achievement of concrete results in priority cooperation areas will contribute to the development of Russian-Macedonian relations, including contacts at the highest level. I also consider that further rapprochement between our countries will contribute to stability and security in the Balkan region and throughout Europe, as well.
Best wishes, Dmitry Medveded Moscow, Kremlin. 26 November 2011
