Following the notification for the detah of Dr. Otto von Habsburg, the President of Republic of Macedonia Dr. Gjorge Ivanov sent a letter of condolences to the Habsburg family:
Respected,
With profound regret I received the news of the death of the great European and the great friend of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Otto von Habsburg.
The people of the Republic of Macedonia shall recollect the memories of von Habsburg as one of the visionaries and architects of the European Union enlargement. Guided by the fundamental idea of the Pan-European Union - unity of all European nations in a strong Europe - he never forgot Macedonia, convinced that “Europe will not be complete without Macedonia”.
The Republic of Macedonia is immensely grateful for the tireless engagement and efforts and is proud that had him as sincere friend and supporter. Von Habsburg entrusted us all to cherish and continue his work, having in its essence the idea of a free, democratic, prosperous and united Europe.
Hence, on my personal behalf and on behalf of the people of the Republic of Macedonia, please accept the most sincere condolences.
Dr. Gjorge Ivanov
