On the occasion of 4th of July, the national holiday of the United States of America, the President of Republic of Macedonia Dr. Gjorge Ivanov sent a letter to the US President Barack Obama:
Dear Mr. President,
Please allow me, on my personal behalf and on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia, to wish you and the American people, a most happy Fourth of July. More than two centuries ago, the realization of the self-evident truths: “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with inherent and inalienable rights…life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”, changed the minds and hearts of the American people and have ever since proved to be an inspiration for millions around the world to seek and achieve these rights. Two decades ago, Macedonian citizens too made a historic decision for self-reliance, independence and sovereignty.
Mr. President, I am pleased with the current level of Macedonian-American relations and cooperation, and, in this solemn occasion for the United States of America, I would like to see further deepening of the friendship between our two Nations.
Remembering Jefferson's wisdom that we have been given life and liberty at the same time, as well as the vow left to posterity by John Adams that “Liberty must at all hazards be supported”, I want to assure you, Mr. President that the Republic of Macedonia and its people will continue to support American efforts for defending freedom, democracy and human rights in the world.
Truly dedicated to the partnership with your great Nation, our peacekeepers remain present alongside the United States of America in the efforts for greater security, democracy and human rights in the world. Inspired by these shared values, we remain focused on achieving the dream of our forefathers for Macedonia as an equal member of the European and Euro-Atlantic brotherhood of Nations. I use this opportunity, Mr. President, to thank you for the continuous support for the fulfillment of our long-term strategic goals. I remain with conviction that, in the coming period, our strategic partnership will be further deepened and enriched for the mutual benefit of our children.
At the end, wishing you and the American people success and prosperity, I avail myself of this opportunity to convey to you Mr. President the assurances of my highest considerations.
Dr. Gjorge Ivanov
