The President of the Republic of Macedonia Dr. Gjorge Ivanov has received the news about the death of the former president of Republic of Macedonia, Kiro Gligorov with deep sorrow. Kiro Gligorov was the first president of the independent Republic of Macedonia. After holding several responsible positions in the former Yugoslavia, in 1991 the Macedonian Assembly elected him to be the President of the Republic. He received his second presidential term on the elections held in 1994. His two presidential terms were marked with the establishment of Macedonia as an independent state. President Gligorov was awarded with the “Order of the Republic of Macedonia”, being the first to receive this highest Macedonian recognition. In these hard moments of loss, I would like to extend the expressions of my deepest condolences to president Kiro Gligorov’s family. He has lived to see Macedonia as a stable and prosperous country.
May he rest in eternal glory.
Dr. Gjorge Ivanov
