On the anniversary of the attacks on September 11th 2001, President of the Republic of Macedonia d-r Gjorge Ivanov sent a letter to the President of the United States of America Barack Obama. The text of the letter follows:
Honorable President,
On the 9th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that shocked the entire world, I can only adhere to the unique feeling that the events of that day may not be forgotten ever. Nine years have past since then; however, the dreadful tragedy of 2001 can not be erased.
The feeling of horror, fear and regret must never be forgotten. The innocent victims who lost their lives must never be forgotten. Also, we shall never forget the way the international community mourned along with Your Great Nation and the way the world showed solidarity with America in the  fight against terrorism.
Therefore, let me pay tribute to the thousands of innocent lives lost in these terrorist attacks. Remembering this day, my thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends, with you Honorable President, with the friendly people of the United States.
The American people have friends, and the Republic of Macedonia is one of those faithful and proven friends and partners. The struggle for peace, freedom and for a better future for the humanity in general is far from being over. Macedonia shall continue to act with the same commitment to achieve these goals, which is being confirmed with the engagement of our military forces in Afghanistan, with an aim to promote the development and the stability of this country.
Please, Honorable President, accept the assurances of my highest consideration.
D-r Gjorge Ivanov
