The Strategy for Development of Creative Industries is being implemented – opening of modern jewelry exhibition
Sunday, 18 March 2012 11:01

At the National Gallery of Macedonia – “Mala Stanica” an exhibition of modern and inventive pieces of jewelry characterized by originality, creativity and wealth of ideas was opened. The exhibition is a result of the creative energy of 20 young creative people who, during the past week, under the mentorship of renowned jewelry experts from the Netherlands, learned and advanced at the first creative modern jewelry production workshop.

In her address at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the Minister of Culture, Elizabeta Kanceska-Milevska said that this workshop is a practical application of the Strategy for Development of Creative Industries, which was drafted three years ago by eminent professors in collaboration with the NGO sector. Among the authors of the Strategy, as a professor, was President Dr. Gjorge Ivanov.

He noted that several years ago this idea was initiated by a group of intellectuals led by Professor Antoanela Petkovska, when as a result of a study the potentials offered by our society in this area were observed, that study was translated into a text that became Strategy for Development of Creative Industries.

”Tonight makes me happy the fact that what was an idea several years ago is a reality today and is an example for all young and creative people in Macedonia, an example to be followed to see that their ideas can be something that can provide their existence. It can become a recognizable brand for our state and encouragement for all those who dare materialize their ideas, to do so”, President Ivanov said.

“The Strategy for Development of Creative Industries is of particular importance for the Republic of Macedonia, since creative industries are in the focus of many European countries and are promoters and pillars of cultural identity that play an invaluable role in encouraging cultural diversity. The practical application of this Strategy will provide new jobs, mobility in economic exchange and promotion of entrepreneurial spirit, Minister Kanceska Mileska said.

The exhibition “Presentation of modern jewelry pieces” is organized within the thematic workshop held in Skopje in the period 12-18 March and is the first of three planned workshops as part of the project of the Ministry of Culture for promotion of cultural industries in our country. Workshops for furniture and packaging are scheduled in July and September.

Our countries share common past and common future - official visit of President of Montenegro Vujanovic
Friday, 16 March 2012 14:56

The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov today hosted the President of Montenegro, H.E. Mr. Filip Vujanovic, who is paying a two-day official visit to the Republic of Macedonia.

There are no open issues between Macedonia and Montenegro, they share a common past and a common future, concluded the Presidents of both countries after today’s meeting in Skopje. Both countries have a strategic goal to become members of the European Union and NATO.

”Even the longest road starts with the first step. Macedonia is already on the road that leads to the EU, we are making progress, which is positive. We can exchange experiences because we have seen the experiences of Slovenia and Croatia”, President Ivanov said, adding that Macedonia and Montenegro will help each other because it is in the interest of entire region.

President Ivanov said that Macedonia is making the first step and Montenegro is doing the same and it is expected membership negotiations to begin in June.

”It is essential to start, and afterwards, with every step we move closer to the goal. We have the experiences from other countries and it will be very useful for us to sooner complete the process. Due date can never be given in the present context we live in, Macedonian President said.

Montenegro, as the Montenegrin President Vujanovic emphasized, expects in June to be given the opportunity to receive a date for membership talks with the EU and that the country works on that issue seriously. With regard to NATO membership, he stressed that Montenegro has met all NATO membership requirements and that positive signals for both countries should be expected at the Summit in Chicago.

Another discussion topic at the meeting was the economic cooperation between Macedonia and Montenegro. President Ivanov, citing statistics from last year, said that Macedonia in 2011 had exports to Montenegro of USD 34 million and imports of USD 2 million. It is expected the surplus on Macedonian side in the near future to be balanced.

Presidents Ivanov and Vujanovic also talked about tourist exchange, which is hampered due to absence of proper infrastructure and lack of regular air line between Macedonia and Montenegro. The presidents announced that in the near future intensive work will be done on improving these conditions. The importance of the Adriatic-Ionian highway was underlined, which will open new markets and will provide greater communication between people and exchange of goods.

Montenegrin President Vujanovic during the day will also meet with the Parliament President, Veljanoski, and Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

Singing of Memorandum of Cooperation for the Project “Sport as Factor of Tolerance, Unity and Respect”
Tuesday, 13 March 2012 15:53

In the Presidential Villa Vodno today a Memorandum of Cooperation for implementation of the Project “Sport as Factor for Tolerance, Unity and Respect” was signed, under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov.

Project holders are the Association for Development Initiatives Geostrategic Institute “Global” and the municipalities of Tetovo, Prilep, Center-Skopje, Staro Nagoricane, Vrapciste and Suto Orizari. The goal is to enable elementary school pupils from these 6 municipalities, through sports, socializing, communicating and visiting local cultural sites, to become better acquainted with their peers who come from different cultural or ethnic communities, to develop a spirit of unity, mutual understanding and respect.

President Ivanov in his speech after the signing of the Memorandum stated that it is his special pleasure and honor to be patron of the activities for implementation of this project. He also expressed confidence that through the projected activities we would be able to contribute to preserving and strengthening the centuries-old traditions of coexistence between ethnic communities.

“We have strong arguments that the sport, as rarely any other social activity, has the power to attract, mobilize and inspire individuals, communities and countries. Sport helps us promote the ideas of peace, tolerance, justice, nonviolence and solidarity. Sport encourages mankind to pursue positive and healthy competition. In different social contexts and situations, sport is becoming a clear factor in promoting intercultural relations, but also a factor in the European sport policy that enhances social stability”, President Ivanov said.

The President stressed that the citizens of all ethnic communities in the Republic of Macedonia, as centuries before, want to live in peace, mutual respect and assistance.

”Sustainable peace and development imply existence of responsible societies, with responsible individuals who cherish values such as teamwork, fair play and mutual respect. Same rules apply to sport as well. Sport is alternative that articulates violent impulses in contest of human spirit, will and physical strength. Alternative that is essential segment of every healthy society that steps on the path to peace and prosperity. Through the successes of our basketball and handball players, we had the opportunity to feel the uniting power of sport”, said the Head of State.

He once again urged all citizens to say no to violence, and not to be provoked and stretch a hand of friendship. He urged that all who use violence and challenge coexistence will be appropriately sanctioned according to the laws.

“There is no room in our society to stir up ethnic conflicts and intolerance. We all remember in pain the bitter taste of conflicts that happened to us over a decade ago. We have overcome it jointly, we have turned a new page, traced a fresh start”, President Ivanov said, adding that although the citizens are aware that our future and the future of our children is in the coexistence and mutual respect, unfortunately, nowadays the attempts to provoke hostility continue.

The President of the Geostrategic Institute "Global", Ivan Anastasovski, said that the entire philosophy, all our thoughts, positive intentions and actions are contained in the title of the project in which there is nothing vague and unknown.

"I sincerely hope that everyone will invest himself unselfishly in the realization of a series of events having the youngest categories in their focus – the pupils", Anastasovski added.

He informed that the activities will take place in non-working days, mostly on Saturdays at locations in the municipalities hosting the events. Sport activities include football training and demonstration of skills through which children socialize and communicate, and at the end of the day they all together will visit and learn about a local landmark that the host municipality is recognizable for.

The signing was attended by the Mayors of the 6 municipalities involved in the project implementation. They agreed that sport creates a great opportunity to strengthen inter-ethnic coexistence among children.

l urge everyone to act responsibly – President Ivanov condemns violent incidents
Sunday, 11 March 2012 15:36

The President of the Republic of Macedonia and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, today in Kriva Palanka, condemned the frequent violent incidents over the past days and send a message that competent institutions should take all necessary measures within their jurisdiction.

”I urge everyone to act responsibly, and if I think necessary, I will convene the Security Council”, the President said in response to a journalist’s question at the ceremony of marking the 20th anniversary of taking over the first watch tower by the Republic of Macedonia’s Territorial Defence from the former JNA at the watch tower “Ramna Niva” at the Macedonian-Bulgarian border in Kriva Palanka.

President Ivanov said that in his Cabinet, all events that occurred after the tragic events in Gostivar are carefully monitored, and that, on a daily basis, relevant institutions report on every case separately.

What is concerning is that young people are involved in all these events. Relevant institutions are taking measures. However, every segment of the society needs to bear its responsibility for what is happening to us, starting from the family, the school, the non-governmental organizations to the media. Everyone should bear responsibility, because we know what can happen when corrupted young people incite events which affect inter-ethnic relations in the country”, President Ivanov stressed.

The Head of State stressed that everyone should bear responsibility for the possible consequences of such events and act responsibly.
