The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, sent a letter of condolences to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mr. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, on the occasion of the terrorist attacks in Tanta and Alexandria:

With deep sadness and a sense of resentment I received the news of the terrorist attacks on April 9 in Tanta and Alexandria and I sincerely regret the loss of lives in these criminal acts.

The attacks against the Christian community in Egypt are also an attack against freedom of religion, peaceful coexistence and unity in your country. Violence in the name of any religion is also violence against that religion. I strongly condemn these terrorist attacks and sincerely hope that while the Arab Republic of Egypt goes through these difficult times, the entire international community will work together in the fight against the evil and will thus intensify the existing cooperation against terrorism.

In these sad moments, let me extend, on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia and on my personal behalf, my deepest condolences and wish the injured a speedy recovery. I want to assure you that the Macedonian citizens are with you and the friendly people of Egypt.

Please, Mr. President, convey the expressions of sympathy to the families of the victims.
