PRM_Han_4The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, received today the Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Union, Mr. Johannes Hahn.

At the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on the current political situation in the Republic of Macedonia and on the opportunities for prompt resolution of the political crisis.

The overcoming of the political crisis is crucial for the Republic of Macedonia to fully focus on the European reform and to continue achieving the EU integration goals, President Ivanov said.

The meeting emphasized the necessity of prompt formation of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, because it is only with fully functional institutions that the state would be ready to deal with all challenges.

In the context of the current situation, President Ivanov expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of public accusation of the interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Macedonia by some neighboring countries.

Commissioner Hahn informed President Ivanov on the meetings with the leaders of political parties and the opinions expressed and noted that the new government should be committed to the European perspective and focus on the European future of the country.

President Ivanov reiterated that the volatility in political life and the tension in the inter-ethnic relations are a consequence of the long lasting status quo of the Republic of Macedonia and urged for a more active engagement and support of Commissioner Hahn. Commissioner Hahn noted that there is an increased awareness among the EU member states about the necessity of unblocking the integration which necessitates formation of a government committed to European integration.

The Macedonian President at the meeting with Hahn said that he, as before and in the future, will act in line with the Constitution and in the interest of the state and the citizens of the Republic of Macedonia. Also, the President stated that he expects the new government to have two key priorities: First, protection of the state interests of the Republic of Macedonia, which implies preserving and strengthening the unitary character of the state. Second, systemic reform after the crisis which will cover the entities of the national security system of the Republic of Macedonia.
