Statement about the events in the Republic of Turkey

PRMportretThe President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, has been following with particular attention the events and developments in friendly Republic of Turkey.

The Macedonian President has been in permanent contact with all the law enforcement institutions in the Republic of Macedonia – the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Army of the Republic of Macedonia.

The President of the Republic of Macedonia and the Head of the Crisis Management system have been continuously briefed by the entities in charge of handling and preventing threats and risks.

The crisis management system of the Republic of Macedonia is following the situation in all counties of the region that are facing security threats, as well as the migrant and refugee crisis.

Upon receiving information about an ongoing military coup in the Republic of Turkey, the Army of the Republic of Macedonia took a series of measures and actions to protect the state border.

We wish to inform that there is currently a meeting of the assessment group in order to analyze the state of security.

The Republic of Macedonia supports the democratically elected government of the Republic of Turkey.

As a NATO Member country and as an exceptionally important country in terms of facing global challenges, the Republic of Turkey is a great friend and strategic partner of the Republic of Macedonia.

President Ivanov supports the normalization of the situation in the Republic of Turkey and calls upon the respect of democratic institutions and refraining from all kinds of violence and bloodshed.

President Ivanov believes that peace and stability are of key importance for each of the countries in the region, and that in these moments there is a need for reason and calm. The Macedonian President notes that political aims should be achieved exclusively through dialogue and in accordance with the will of the citizens expressed at democratic elections.
