Today, the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov had a meeting with the Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Dimitar Bogov, as well as representatives of the management structures of the banking sector in the Republic of Macedonia.

The meeting was an opportunity to exchange opinions and information on current developments in economy, entrepreneurship and banking. Participants also discussed the implications of the world economic crisis over the stability of the banking system, as well as the impact of the internal political situation and refugee and migrant crisis on the overall economic policy of the Republic of Macedonia.


Noting the role and significance of banking as regards the economic growth of the country, President Ivanov underlined that only a stable financial system can lead to strengthening the trust of economic entities. In this sense, the Macedonian Preident welcomed the measures taken by the National Bank and the overall banking regulations which contributed to the successful handling of risks in times of crisis by the banks.

The managers informed President Ivanov about their activities, possibilities for further facilitation of the access to credits, as well as about the achieved results and their contribution to the competitiveness of Macedonian economy.

Apart from the conditions for crediting, the Macedonian President also emphasized that the banking sector must not neglect citizens' savings as an important source of financing of the banks. President Ivanov also stated that the banking sector must find ways to further support the economy and especially innovative ideas and start-up businesses of young entrepreneurs.

The bank representatives expressed their satisfaction with the meeting and with the continuous support that the Macedonian President has been providing to the business community in the Republic of Macedonia in order to improve the overall economic situation in the country.

The participants welcomed President Ivanov's economic diplomacy activities within the frame of his visits abroad, in order to promote the economic advantages offered by the Republic of Macedonia in attracting foreign investments, as well as the regular meetings of the Macedonian President with representatives of the Chambers of Commerce and business communities in order to motivate the use of domestic economic and investment potential.
