The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, met today with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Republic of Macedonia, H.E. Mr. Saied Sadegh Mohammadi.
At the meeting, President Ivanov welcomed the agreement reached between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany on Iran's nuclear program, adding that the same is a positive historic step for the countries of the Middle East region.
"The agreement between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany is a step that should lead to stabilization and greater security in Middle East", President Ivanov said, adding that its full implementation will contribute the longstanding tensions and sanctions to be translated into concrete economic cooperation and confidence building. "The agreement on Iran, for an old civilization, a country with rich culture and traditions, opens up a possibility for a new chapter, to be again an active member in the international community and to contribute to the regional and international security", President Ivanov said.
In this context, the Macedonian President stressed that the improvement of the economic cooperation and strengthening the trade between the Republic of Macedonia and the Islamic Republic of Iran should be a priority of the two countries in the coming period, also pointing to the need for improvement of the contractual and legal framework.
Ambassador Mohammadi said that the agreement guarantees that Iran's nuclear program will be exclusively for peaceful purposes and will be aimed at strengthening regional and international security.
The Iranian Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the lifting of the longstanding economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation and stressed that the agreement opens up a new perspective in the cooperation with the world, which will positively affect the strengthening of mutual trust.
In the talks, Ambassador Mohammadi reaffirmed the position that Iran will also try in the future to build and develop bilateral cooperation with the Republic of Macedonia in all areas of mutual interest.
