Meeting with Ambassador Matthew Nimetz, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on the name issue

nimic01The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, received today Ambassador Matthew Nimetz, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on the name issue.

The meeting reviewed the current situation regarding the talks on overcoming this issue.

Welcoming the engagement of Ambassador Nimetz, President Ivanov reaffirmed the state position of the Republic of Macedonia and the commitment to finding a mutually acceptable solution to the name dispute.

"As before, the Republic of Macedonia actively, constructively and in good faith participates in the process of finding a mutually acceptable solution to the name dispute", President said Ivanov.

The meeting, attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Poposki, and the new envoy in the talks on the name dispute, Dr. Vasko Naumovski, President Ivanov stressed the readiness of the Macedonian side for meetings at the highest level and for intensifying the dialogue.

The Macedonian President stated that a solution can be reached only with the constructiveness of the two sides and by adhering to the framework in which the talks are led - the Security Council resolutions, the Interim Agreement and the judgment of the International Court of Justice in The Hague. In this context, President Ivanov called for respect of international law and strict adherence to international commitments.
