The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, sent a letter of gratitude to the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov:

Excellency,

I would like to express my gratitude for the warm reception and the exceptional hospitality accorded to me and my delegation during my official visit to your country on 24 and 25 July 2012. It is with sincere appreciation that I recall the beautiful folkloric performance overlooking Lake Ohrid, our meeting with the inspiring young leaders, the State Dinner you hosted in honor of my wife and me, the visit to the Plaoshnik area of Ohrid, and, above all, our insightful and constructive discussions. I would also like to thank you for your generous gift and the logistical support provided during my visit.

Allow me to reassure you of my personal commitment to facilitating the achievement of a solution to your country’s difference with Greece. As promised during my visit, I will be calling Prime Minister Samaras soon to strongly encourage him to re-engage in the process led by my Personal Envoy, Mr. Nimetz. Your personal involvement will remain critical to identify a mutually acceptable solution.

I value your contribution to the work of the United Nations, and I look forward to continuing our strong cooperation.

Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Ban Ki-moon
United Nations Secretary General
