Cooperation and fostering common values - meeting with the President of the Albanian Academy of Sciences, Gudaj Beqiraj

The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, today received the President of the Albanian Academy of Sciences (AAS), Academician Gudaj Beqiraj who is visiting the country on the occasion of the “Days of Albanian Science and Art”.

Both interlocutors agreed that the historical link between these two friendly neighboring countries, the good political relations and the common vision for the future are an incentive to further intensify the cooperation in the field of sciences and arts.

President Ivanov welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and Scientific Cooperation between the two highest scientific institutions of Macedonia and Albania in September 2011 and the start of implementation of concrete projects and activities of mutual interest.

The President of the AAS, Beqiraj, informed the President on all initiatives launched so far, as well as on the latest joint activity – the organization of the manifestation “Days of Albanian Science and Art” in the Republic of Macedonia.

President Ivanov and Academician Beqiraj concurred that the communication, cooperation and understanding between the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Albanian Academy of Science are an example of good neighborly relations and fostering common values.

The Macedonian President, who was recently inaugurated as a Protector of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, said that it is his obligation and firm determination to back all projects that contribute to the advancement of science, art, education, culture, as well as all joint initiatives aimed at creating conditions for a better future and prosperity of the citizens of this region.

The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov sent a letter of congratulations to H.E. Mr. Joachim Gauck, newly elected president of the Federal Republic of Germany:

Dear Mr. President,
It is my special honor and pleasure to extend my most sincere congratulations for your election as President of the Federal Republic of Germany. In this solemn occasion, I am sending you my sincere wishes for successful execution of the high and responsible mission, good health and personal happiness.

Allow me to express my satisfaction with the high level of traditionally friendly relations and cooperation between our countries and to express my belief that with joint efforts we will contribute to further promotion of the ties in all areas of mutual interest, both at bilateral and multilateral level. Be assured that we consider the Federal Republic of Germany a sincere friend and partner, not only in the sphere of economy and reforms, but also in the field of European and Euro-Atlantic integrations.

I would like to assure you, Mr. President, that the Republic of Macedonia and its citizens remain committed to fulfilling the centuries-old dream of European and Euro-Atlantic Macedonia. I would like to use this solemn opportunity to extend my gratitude for the support your country gives to the Republic of Macedonia in this regard, and to emphasize the deep conviction and expectation that it will continue in the coming period, particularly before and during the NATO Summit in Chicago, and the upcoming European Council meetings.

Commitment to promoting positive perspective for all citizens - meeting with Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Haxhinasto

The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov met today with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Edmond Haxhinasto.

President Ivanov and Deputy Prime Minister Haxhinasto at the meeting assessed bilateral relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Albania as excellent and friendly, with continued positive dynamics in dialogue and cooperation. At the meeting, several initiatives for further improvement and exploitation of opportunities for cooperation, especially in the economic sector, and ways for its intensification. It was mutually agreed that joint action is necessary to improve the road infrastructure between the two countries, which would provide a concrete contribution in that regard.

President Ivanov and Deputy Prime Minister Haxhinasto exchanged opinions on the Euro-Atlantic integrations of Macedonia and Albania, as well as the regional developments. The interlocutors concluded that the integrations in the region are moving and that both countries should continue the good cooperation and mutual support for Macedonia’s integration into NATO and the European Union and Albania’s integration into the EU.

President Ivanov and Deputy Prime Minister Haxhinasto agreed that individual isolated incidents cannot affect the friendly relations between both countries, stating that it is important all responsible and serious political factors in the region continue to condemn attempts encouraging hostility and prejudice among the states, nations and religious communities in the region. Macedonia and Albania remains committed to promoting positive perspective for all citizens, which will provide economic development and prosperity, and mutual respect and tolerance.
