As part of today's working visit to Brussels, the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, met with the President of the European Council, Mr. Herman Van Rompuy.

"Brussels' visit was intended to reiterate the clear commitment of Macedonia's EU future. That clear message was presented at the meetings, and my interlocutors expressed interest in the latest developments in our country. They sent a clear message to all political stakeholders in our country to seriously approach the European integration process and show responsibility in this process, because European integration is responsibility of all political actors in each country," President Ivanov said after the meeting with the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy.

President Ivanov added that Van Rompuy and EU Enlargement Commissioner, Stefan Fule, whom he met this morning, were informed about the situation in our country and discussed many aspects of the political life in our country and the developments in the region. President Ivanov said that he asked the positive experience of the region to be applied in our case, of parallel movement of both processes, the negotiation process and resolving bilateral difference.

"I said that what is happening in recent years in Macedonia causes frustration among the population and the political actors. As a result of that frustration, we witness current situation in the country and therefore ask greater commitment towards Macedonia. For citizens to feel the benefits of the process our country is committed to," President Ivanov said.

The Macedonian President added that everybody is concerned with their political future and career, as it is time of elections within the EU.

"The atmosphere within the Union is evident and the challenges it faces, but what we need to do as a country to maintain high the European agenda in Macedonia is responsibility of every political actor," President Ivanov said.
