The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, in the framework of his participation in the 73rd General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, had a meeting with the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Antonio Guterres.
The meeting focused on the activities of the Republic of Macedonia within the United Nations.
President Ivanov reaffirmed the strong commitment of the Republic of Macedonia to strengthen the role of the United Nations in dealing with global challenges.
Global challenges require a global, coordinated and unified response, for which we need a strong and effective Organization of the United Nations, President Ivanov said at the meeting.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged about the current internal political situation in the Republic of Macedonia. Regarding the Prespa Treaty, President Ivanov reiterated his view that the EU and NATO should not be an alibi for a poor agreement that raises many more issues than it closes.
The UN Secretary-General Guterres said in relation to the upcoming referendum that the Macedonian people should make the decision on their own and that they will respect that decision.
